Fattah Faisal

A quick summary of who I am and how I got here.

Background

I spent five years in the UK home energy sector, working on government grants for fuel poverty and low-income households alongside property energy assessments. Starting as Assistant Manager, I moved up to Manager after two years, and grew the team from 5 to 14 over that stretch.

The people side of that job turned out to be the hardest part. Interviews, HR conversations, difficult clients, the moments where the call you make lands on someone else. There's no textbook that prepares you for those, only the doing. What helped was building systems around it: performance dashboards, clearer rules, sales funnels, job pipelines, and a lot of Excel sheets. Any repeated problem I could turn into a fixed process, I tried to build.

I started with studying commerce in college, but Data and AI kept making more sense to me, so I made the switch to computer science. I'm on track to complete my Computer Science degree with distinction across 13 modules to date. Outside university, my interest took me through bootcamps in CS fundamentals, then data analytics, and now data science.

Managing university and work at the same time was hectic, but it turned out to be the useful part. I could take what I studied and apply it straight to real problems from the job.
